Music Video Analysis 'Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag

The song ‘teenage Dirtbag’ by Wheatus was released on July 17 2000, this song is a narrative since the song lyrics are contrasting to what is happening.

The technical codes within the music video is that there are tracking shots to show the introduction to who he is, after with mid close ups, this shows that they are the important characters. The music video consists of scenes from the move ‘Losers’.

There are symbolic codes to help define the narrative of the music video as well as the artist such as, the artist is always with his band performing with the musical instruments and that he always wears the glasses and hat, symbolise that he is the superior of the group.

This video fits the typical narrative music video, this is because the lyrics correspond with the music video itself, for example when the artist says ‘her boyfriend is a dick’ the camera does a mid-shot of him, as well as slow motion for the audience to see who he is, this can relate as another narrative to another music video such as busted year 3000.

There were technical codes that have been used such as the low angle shot to empower the character who was the boyfriend, this is because he is the ‘popular kid’.
